What is Rogaining?
Rogaining is a team orienteering sport conducted over long distances in the countryside. A team, consisting of 2-5 participants, visits control points in a chosen sequence within a specified time limit. The main goal is to navigate freely in the terrain using a map and compass to collect as many checkpoints as possible, with points awarded for visiting each control point. Teams, which are divided into different categories based on age and gender, are ranked based on the total number of points they accumulate. In the case of a tie, the team that completes the course in the shortest time is ranked higher.
In Latvia, rogaining events are most commonly 3, 4, and 6 hours long, but 1, 2, 8, and 12-hour competitions also occur. The official rogaining time limit is 24 hours, and this format is used for world, European, and national championships.
